Competency-Based Education (CBE) creates a personalized, student driven mode of instruction. Turning traditional pathways to credentials on their heads, CBE focuses on shorter courses with flexible enrollment. Courses focus on what the skills students need for their careers; are presented in shorter, self-paced modules, and allow students to have control over their learning.

Changes of this magnitude demand strategic planning and organizational expertise. I have implemented and championed the competency-based (CBE), open entry/early exit, rolling enrollment model in an engineering technology/advanced manufacturing program. The innovative, personalized learning model required significant modification to existing technology systems; registration, advising, and financial aid processes; faculty roles and contract; and program assessment techniques.
